I remember when she found it, how she described it to me… “It’s perfect” she said, “It’s the dress of my dreams.”   She wore the dress that one, beautiful autumn day. It was magical….I’ll add here that I was her bridesmaid, and that I met my husband at her wedding; for that reason, I hold her wedding day in my memory like a treasure, bathed in sunshine and the smell of autumn in Napa valley. It was a day of hope, and love and their dreams of a life together.   Life changes. Dreams change, and we hope for new things. Today, my friend has a different dream, and for that dream she needs to raise some cash. She came to me, and asked me to help her sell a few things including The Dress—she has no eBay experience, and my husband and I have done some buying and selling on eBay. So I am selling her dress for her. Maybe my friend pursuing her new dream can be your dream come true?   Carolina Herrera Couture. Size 8. Elegant and classic. Strapless pale, soft, antique white silk. A-line skirt. There is a delicate ivory sash that crosses in the front and ties in the back, flowing down the length of the dress. It is a timeless design; truly, an heirloom quality dress. The dress is simple, with no lace or beading or adornment except for the sash, but the fabric is exquisite and the cut and craftsmanship are sublime.   The dress cost $4400, was worn once, then taken to a professional cleaner and hermetically sealed. Since it has been worn, I cannot guarantee that it is pristine. I am reluctant to open the seal, because I think it’s a selling point of the dress. It’s all beautifully and professionally packed now, and I know I wouldn’t be able to re-pack it as well. Consequently, I have no photos of the hemline, which is where you would expect to see signs of wear (her wedding and reception were held outdoors). The dress has a dramatic train, but it buttons up into a bustle. When the bustle is buttoned up, which you can see in one of the photos, the dress is slightly shorter—it’s made so that when the train is down, the dress sweeps the ground.   The first few photos here are of the dress on a mannequin. The others are my snapshots from her wedding, so you can see how the dress fits. The last shot shows you how the bustle looks when it is up.This sale includes the dress, cleaned and packed in a hermetically sealed box; the veil (also silk) and a garment bag for hanging the dress.
